Dating Standards Test

Six questions about the bar you actually apply: how much looks decide, how many dealbreakers you enforce, and whether the list survives contact with a real person. You get a read on each part of the bar — never a verdict on you.

What this tool is for

Is the bar the problem, or the pool?

Six parts of your standard, graded for how workable each one is: whether it describes a person or a checklist, whether you have ever re-read it, and what you would trade to keep it.

Short answer: A standard you can revise is a preference. One you cannot is a filter. This page asks 6 questions about choices you already make, grades how workable each one is, and returns three things to test — no score for you as a person.

What the dating standards test measures — and what it does not

Every question is about a decision you control: how much weight appearance carries, how many filters you enforce, how you respond when someone is close but not exact. Nothing here measures your appearance, your personality or your "value" in a dating pool. There is no photo upload on this page and no result is held behind an email or a payment.

The output is a short read of each lever plus three moves. A grade of "calibrated" means the answer describes a standard that can flex when a real person appears. A tight grade is not a character flaw — it is a rule that costs you options, and rules can be edited.

Why there is no total score

A total would imply that some mix of answers makes you dateable, and that the rest make you not. That claim cannot survive contact with how matching actually works: two people with identical habits get different results because pools, timing and other people's preferences differ. The Score is a weak geometric signal. It does not predict matches, dates, replies, or your worth.

What a quiz can honestly do is show you which part of your bar is doing the most filtering, so you can test one change at a time instead of rewriting everything at once.

How to read the result

  • Calibrated — keep it. The standard flexes when the person in front of you does not match the checklist exactly.
  • Tight — one adjustment would loosen it. Usually this is a preference promoted to a rule without anyone deciding that on purpose.
  • Over-specified — start here. Not because the standard is wrong, but because it is doing more work than you intended.

What changes a standard, and what does not

Standards move when you get better information: a short date with someone outside the type, a friend's honest read on your list, or noticing that a rule came from one bad experience years ago. They rarely move from being told they are too high. That is why this page gives you tests, not verdicts.

What does not help: lowering everything at once, or keeping a list you never re-read. Both replace one habit with another. Change one lever, watch what happens for a month, then decide.

Two pages worth reading next

If the read came back tight or over-specified, the next question is usually whether your standards are too high or whether you are aiming at the wrong pool. We wrote a longer answer to that, and a separate piece on dating market value that explains why we do not calculate one for you.

What this cannot tell you

It cannot tell you whether a specific person will want you, how long anything will take, or what you "deserve". It is not a psychological assessment and not relationship advice. Entertainment & self-insight only. Not medical, psychological, or dermatological advice. Face Rate is for adults 18 and over.

The complete formula, weights and limitations are public: See exactly how the score is calculated. If we can't measure it honestly, we say so — before you pay.

Is the bar the problem, or the pool?

This page reads the inputs you can edit. If you suspect the filter itself is doing the damage — too many must-haves, a type you keep returning to, a rule you never re-read — start here instead. Three free reads, no photo, no score for you as a person: are my standards too high? · what dating market value can and cannot tell you.

Each one links back to the twenty-one-chapter Dating Report when you want the plan rather than the diagnosis.

Frequently asked questions

Is the dating standards test really free?

Yes — no account, no email gate, no blurred result, no card. The paid reports are separate one-off purchases: $12.90 for the Face Report and $17.90 for the Dating Report. Never a subscription.

Do I need to upload a photo?

No. This quiz never asks for a photo and nothing about your appearance is measured. The questions are about choices, and the answers stay in your browser except for the anonymous aggregate described below.

Is this a real psychological test?

No. Entertainment & self-insight only. Not medical, psychological, or dermatological advice. It is a short self-report that grades how workable six parts of your bar are. It is not a validated instrument and should not be read as a diagnosis of you or your relationships.

What do you do with my answers?

They are sent as anonymous numbers so we can see which questions people find hard, never with a name or email attached. We do not sell answers and do not use them for advertising. Read the Privacy Policy or delete your data any time.

What should I do with the result?

Test one standard for a month instead of rewriting the whole list. Start with the lever marked over-specified. If a change feels like a loss rather than a relief after four weeks, put it back — the point is information, not compliance.

Is a high standard a bad thing?

No. A standard is only a problem when it is doing more filtering than you intended, or when it cannot survive one exception. Plenty of people with demanding lists are content; the difference is that the list is re-read rather than defended.

Please read this before you use the result

  • Entertainment & self-insight only. Not medical, psychological, or dermatological advice.
  • The Score is a weak geometric signal. It does not predict matches, dates, replies, or your worth.
  • Estimated with a lightweight on-device geometry heuristic — not a 478-landmark clinical measurement.
  • No procedures, surgery, fillers or injectables are recommended anywhere on this site.
  • If a low score is making you feel bad, close the tab. This is a measurement, not feedback that should affect how you see yourself.

Face Rate is for adults 18 and over.
